Alcalá del Júcar will turn into a real Craft Village
We have just started converting one of the most beautiful villages of Spain, Alcalá del Júcar, into a real (not a virtual!) Craft Village. The Town Hall, together with craft association Amata, want to bring a lot of craft workshops together in the old town centre, so that visitors can enter the different workshops, watch the artisans at work, talk to them, buy their work or place special orders.
Courses will be organised for children and adults, either short workshops that can be followed on a short visit to the village, or intensive courses of several days and different levels, so you can learn basic techniques for beginners, or acquire specialised skills for advanced students.
At the infomation desk and in the tourist office leaflets will be available with a list of all the workshops and stores, as well as other buildings of interest, with their opening times. And to make sure that you won't miss one of them, a route wille be signposted that passes all the shops and workshops of the artisans.
Several artisans are already preparing to move to Alcalá and open a workshop: they will repair the buildings and get them ready for their new destination and they will open their workshop as soon as it is ready to receive visitors.
We hope to be able to launch the whole project at the end of 2022 or in the first half of 2023 (all depending on the Covid-situation). If you would like to take part in this Craft Village, please contact Amata to get information about the conditions and to ask for the application form.
